This year’s homecoming theme is Disco; an exhausted, overly played out theme that always seems to at one point and time infect a high school dance. This virus of theme was able to seep itself onto the ballot of dance themes from which the Student Government chose from. Some people are excited for a disco; they’re ready to wear they’re parachute pants, half buttoned shirts, and tease their hair out like nobody’s business. They want to listen to 70’s music and dance around the giant disco ball, we’ve been so kindly promised. I feel bad for the unfortunate souls (freshman mostly) that will actually get dressed in disco attire and shimmy their way down to the dance. They don’t yet realize that Palm Harbor fails every year at being creative and actually coming up with a descent theme and presenting it well. No one, except a reluctant few, is going to dress in actual disco. Every girl has already spent months, even before the theme was announced, looking for the perfect dress that are to be accompanied by the perfect shoes. Consequently, all the guys have been searching for the best colored tie to either match their date or their boys. There’s no reason to have a theme from a decade that students can only relate to from watching movies or That 70’s Show. There isn’t too much to expect, I mean, compared to the previous years’ theme: Club U, Halloween and Starry Nights, the bar of standards is low. There isn’t too much more to say, except let’s try to boogie, until we can boogie no more. Class of 2013, the homecoming baton is being passed onto you; redeem us!
