How to make pan de jamon, a Venezuelan delicacy!
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup of warm milk
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 4 cups of flour
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 3 eggs
- Ham
- Raisins
Bacon
About 5/7 of a dried yeast packet
Directions:
First, add the sugar, salt, and yeast into a mixing bowl containing the 4 cups of flour. Mix very well. Afterwards, make a hole in the center and add the warm milk, 2 beaten eggs, and the melted butter. Mix until all liquids have been absorbed.
Sprinkle the area in which you will knead the dough with flour and knead the dough for 10 minutes. Keep sprinkling the area with flour until the dough stops being sticky. Place the dough inside of an unheated oven to the let the dough rise. It takes an hour for this process to occur (the dough should be around double its original size when the process is over).
Next, sprinkle the area with flour where you will roll the dough with a rolling pin. Try to make a rectangular shape as you roll (make sure the rectangular shape is not wider than your oven). Now, add the slices of ham side by side each other with some overlap, there should be 2 rows of ham adjusted as so. Afterwards, place a bacon slice on top of every ham slice (you may microwave the bacon ahead of time to lessen the fat content). Then, you can sprinkle on as many raisins as you like (the more, the sweeter). Finally, roll up the dough with its contents. Moisten the edges of the dough with water to ensure its closure and close up the sides of the bread.
Cover the dough with plastic and cloth and let it rise for 1 hour. Brush the dough with 1 beaten egg. Afterwards, pierce various holes in the dough with a fork. Now, place into a preheated oven at 350 degrees. Wait 40 minutes or until golden. And voila, you got yourself a delicious pan de jamon!
