Miranda Lambert scores Female Vocalist of the Year for the fifth year in a row

The 49th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were held on Sunday, Apr. 6 and held many extraordinary performances as well as surprising results.

Taylor Swift lost out on both Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year to George Strait and Miranda Lambert, consecutively. However, despite these losses, Swift was honored with Video of the Year. Swift and Keith Urban were featured in Tim McGraw’s winning “Highway Don’t Care” music video.

Lambert had yet another successful year at the ACMs,  taking home not just one, but three awards. She received Female Vocalist of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year, and Single Record of the Year. Lambert set a record, along with Urban, for receiving three awards in one year.

Kacey Musgraves beat McGraw, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, and the Florida Georgia Line with her album “Same Trailer Different Park,” giving her the Album of the Year award.

Best male vocalist was awarded to Jason Aldean who is known for his popular songs such as “Big Green Tractor” and “She’s Country.” The Band Perry won Vocal Group of the Year over the Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum, the Little Big Town, and the Zac Brown Band.

Lee Brice was received the Song of the Year award for “I Drive Your Truck.” Justin Moore won the New Artist of the Year award, and Florida and Georgia Line won the Duo of the Year award.

Shelton performed his new single “My Eyes” which received resounding applause from the audience. Moreover, Shelton later took the stage with Shakira, getting an even more tremulous response from the crowd.

The Academy of Country Music Awards not only was unique in that Lambert won a record three awards, but also the performances from many of the winners and nominees were spotless. Next year, at the 50th annual ACM awards, the audience will be watching with bated breath, awaiting what additional spectacular performances will be held and surprising winners will be announced.
