A girl, disarrayed by catching her boyfriend initiating in naughty acts with another female, moves into an apartment shared by three men she met online. The storyline of New Girl is fantastic – so much can be done with it. In fact, I feel as though the show can push boundaries even further.
Building up with sexual innuendos and Jess’s inability to say “penis”, the show experimented with boundary pushing on the latest episode – “Naked” – which threw me into hysterics. In fact, my mom had to ask me what was keeping me laughing for such a long time.
However, it appears that New Girl has reached this level from shaky beginnings – some parts become awkward for me to watch and I do not mean that in a good way. Zooey Deschanel as the quirky, cute girl is getting as redundant as Michael Cera as the awkward boy in love and I wish the producers of New Girl had experimented with a fresh, new face.
At times I will be watching the show and can tell that Deschanel and Max Greenfield (Schmidt) are acting, a sign that I am already detached from the show. Perhaps, as exhibited in the fourth episode, the actors will gain an even better concept of the characters. I sure hope I will see episodes more like “Naked” and not lay eyes on an episode like the Pilot episode.
